The First Shot

This was the very first shot that I took with the new camera. This barn is found in Reno County, Kansas.
Oklahoma - 4th of July Trip

This was our Fourth of July trip to see our family and wanted to
photograph old barns along the way. We were using this opportunity to
learn how to use the camera. There were a lot of interesting old barns
along the way; these were the best shots from this trip.
Sedgwick and Reno County Barns

We took a quick jaunt through Sedgwick and Reno counties in
south-central Kansas one Saturday morning. There are lots of farms
throughout this area, including a large Amish community. These are only
a fraction of what's around in these 2 counties.
Barns on Labor Day

We took these photos coming home from Meade, Kansas after visiting some
friends for the Labor Day weekend. These were taken primarily along
Highway 160, except for the first two shots.
Sunset on the Hardesty Farmstead

This is the barn from the farm that my mother grew up on near Caldwell, Kansas. It's pretty
worse for wear. The house is gone. This barn, an old chicken coop and a
metal round building are left.

This is our first attempt at doing sunset photos. We arrived later than
I wanted so we were scrambling to get set up. We also realized that we
had left the tripod attachment at home so we had to improvise with the
tripod. We managed to get a couple of ok shots. I'm planning on
returning to get some more photographs.

This is part of my family heritage and I want some memories before it's
gone. And yes, my grandmother was Chekoslovakian/Bohemian.
First Fall Old Barn Excursion

I had a couple of hours to burn one Sunday morning and decided to take
a quick trip through the local countryside and take a few photographs
of the fall colors. I didn't really see any great colors, but the trip
wasn't a total loss.
Barn Photographs on Opening Weekend

I took these photographs on my home from the pheasant season opening
weekend (which I didn't do very well, thank you). These are barns are
along Highway 54 and are from several different counties. There are
others that I should have photographed, but it was late, I was tired
and these were the most accessible.

I'm really trying to understand how ISO, f-stop and exposure times
affect the final photograph. Maybe after more experimenting, I'll begin
to see how it all works together.
First Barn Photographs of 2006

I've been itching to get out and find some more old barns to
photograph. The weather hasn't really been very accommodating. Neither has my
job. I missed the hoar frost that came through in December. And the one snow
that we had melted before I could get out.

I decided to go out for a couple of hours and see what I
could find. I found some barns, but the settings weren't very interesting. It's
been very dry, so everything is grey and brown, natural for this time of year,
I know. But again, nothing really caught my eye.

I went ahead and photographed these two just so I wouldn't
return empty handed.

January 2006 Barn Photographs

I found these barns on my way home from the last pheasant hunting trip of the season. I had left for home early to have some extra time to photograph some finds on the way home. There are so many barns along the way home that I wanted the extra time.
Chad Beatty Photographs

These are from an artist friend of mine, Chad Beatty. You can find his paintings and drawings here. This building, which looks a little like a train station, is between Yoder and Hutchinson, Kansas. Three are the original photographs. The other three are those shots with some Photoshop filter work done on them.
Harvest Time

We took these photographs coming home from a family reunion in Harper, Kansas. Harvest was winding down in much of the state but we came across a crew still going strong. And we found several old barns. There are many farms in this area, way to many to shoot in a single afternoon.

But I really need to get my head wrapped around white balance and do something about that color cast. The late afternoon sun and the partly overcast day was really causing me some issues with the camera.
